Characteristics of the Welsh Springer Spaniel

The morphological characteristics of the Welsh Springer Spaniel
Weiwo The ideal shoulder height of a Welsh Springer Spaniel for male dogs should be 45.7-48.3cm, and the ideal shoulder height for female dogs should be 43.2-45.7cm. Body weight and shoulder height work together. The coat can only be filled with red and white, all color spot types are allowed and all white areas may have spots.
The Welsh Springer Spaniel’s head is unique and should not resemble the heads of other hound breeds. Its complete smoothness is the main thing. The head and body should be in proportion, never wide enough to look rough, nor narrow enough to look tall and thin. The skull is moderately long, slightly dome-shaped, and has a clear frontonasal step. The subocular surface is prominent. The plane of the top of the skull is slightly different from the plane of the top of the muzzle, but the muzzle does not tend to slope downward. Round and full heads are the least popular.
The eyes are oval-shaped, dark brown to medium brown, with a gentle complexion. Although lighter shades of brown are allowed, dark eyes prevail. Yellow eyes or eyes that are difficult to see are subject to heavy penalties. The eyes are of average size, neither overshooting nor deep-set nor displaying the nictitating membrane. Tight and dark eye rims are best.
The ears are close to the eye level and close to the cheek lobe. The ears are relatively small and the hearing is good. It gradually becomes narrower towards the tip of the ear, like a vine leaf, slightly feathered.
Muzzle length is close to or equal to (but not greater than) skull length. The muzzle is straight and square, with no excess overhang. The nostrils are elongated, black or different shades of brown. A pink nose is a serious fault. The best one is a scissor bite platform.
The body size is moderate, the bones are not rough, the structure is compact, the neck is long arched, the back is level, the waist is slightly bent, the muscles are rich, the tail is docked, and can work in all situations, it is a very outstanding water dog .
The coat of the Welsh Springer Spaniel is naturally straight and soft to the touch, never bristle or wavy. The thick coat protects the feet from water, punctures and harsh weather. There is moderate feathering on the back of the front legs, the hind legs above the hocks, and the chest and underside of the trunk. The ears and tail are lightly feathered. Excessive coat that interferes with wilderness activities is not recommended. Obvious pruning should also be avoided.
